Mill Neck Manor 2008
Mill Neck N.Y.
Art Works and Designs choose the third floor guest passage to transform, the inspiration were the stained glass skylights that lit up the space. After a thorough restoration of the 80 year old glass, that included wood graining the frames and repairing the light shafts, the hall began to come to life. The wall finish we used was a pearlescent gold, and then we stenciled an antique rococo design with open medallions. Inside the medallions we painted landscape scenes from the estate and portraits of the original family and other gold coast residents from the past. The technique we created is called 'ghosting' where the images appear only in the correct angle and with the right light. The hall from the stairwell has a Venetian plaster in a limestone block surrounding a softly colored landscape mural of the sunken garden. Our efforts were rewarded with the prestigious producer's award for outstanding craftsmanship.
